I remember feeling…...exhausted….frustrated…..defeated. Sound Familiar?
I worked my butt off in high school and college. Getting the best grades and working two and three jobs at a time. If HARD WORK alone was enough, I’d have been a millionaire in my early 20’s. My plan to escape the generational hole I was raised in was looking like it might just pan out…until it didn’t.
I’m not exactly one for excepting the status quo so…after a period of feeling sorry for myself and dusting off the dirt, I put my head down and got to work figuring out what WOULD change my financial path.
I was determined to be the generation that changed our path. My kids were getting different. This was going to require more than my street smarts and a lot more than my book intelligence. What I needed was exposure to people who were doing it. Not just books that inspired but to BE in the presence of those who I thought were “gate-keeping”. After all, I was raised to resent the wealthy.
On the same token, I was not really jealous but did crave the level of freedom they had. That ability to drop everything and fly off to a warm locale without planning and saving for five years first. The ability to give generously to charity and still be able to pay my own living. To have so much money in the bank that you don’t have to balance your account before you write the checks or swipe the cards because you KNOW it’s more than covered. You get the idea.
